Uses of Achipex

Aciphex is a drug formulation that comes in the form or an oral tablet. It is designed to decrease the stomach’s acid production. Because of this, Aciphex can treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (heartburn) and ulcers.

Take Aciphex with a full glass of water. It is usually taken once a day for four weeks minimum and eight weeks maximum. Usually, adults are prescribed a dose of 20mg tablet. Aciphex should not be broken, chewed or split prior to ingestion. It is an enteric-coated and delayed-release tablet that is designed to be slowly released within the body.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Tell your doctor about any other medication you are taking as some drugs must not be taken while on Aciphex. You may need some adjustment with your prescription or some special monitoring if ever your doctor allows the consumption of Aciphex with other drugs. Drugs that may have some interactiosn with Aciphex include ampicillin (Onipen, Principen), cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), ketoconazole (Nizoral) and iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron).

It is rare for a patient to experience side effects to the fairly tolerable Aciphex. However, seek emergency medical attention if you experience allergic reactions. You may also experience other side effects such as diarrhea, headache, insomnia, itching, rash and upset stomach. Contact your doctor if your symptoms persist or worse, or if anything seems unusual.

Missed Dose

Take your missed dose if it the time you remember it is not yet too far from your schedule for that missed dose. Skip it if is nearly time for the next scheduled dose to avoid double dosing.

Storage

Store Aciphex at temperatures between 59 degrees Fahrenheit and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Protect the medicine from moisture and as with other drugs, keep it away from children.

Overdose

If you suspect overdose, immediately seek emergency medical help. Unfortunately, the symptoms and effects of Aciphex overdose are still not determined.

More Information

Take Aciphex as your doctor has instructed you. Continue taking until the end of your treatment even if you feel better before. There are no restrictions in terms of food, drink and activity unless your doctor specifies so.
