Drug Uses
Aciphex is an oral tablet that is used to decrease acid production in your stomach. This drug treats conditions concerning stomach acid production, specifically gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn) and ulcers.
How Taken
Aciphex is to be taken with one full glass of water per dose, once daily for four to eight weeks. The suggested dose for adults is a 20mg tablet. Aciphex is a delayed-release, enteric-coated tablet that should not be broken, chewed or split. The tablets will be slowly released into your body as that is how they are formulated and they must be swallowed whole.
Warnings/Precautions
Certain drugs should not be taken with Aciphex. Talking to your doctor and pharmacist before consuming prescription or over-the-counter medicines is crucial in order to determine whether dosage adjustments or special monitoring is needed. Drug that may not interact with Aciphex include: ketoconazole (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral).
Missed Dose
If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your schedule. However, if it is within close proximity of your missed dose, take it as soon as you can remember. Double dosing is not recommended.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects are rare; however emergency medical attention must be sought if the following allergic reactions occur: difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives. Other mild side effects are also uncommon however if the any of the following occur: headache, upset stomach, diarrhea, insomnia, nervousness, rash or itching, contact your doctor if it seems unusual.
Storage
Aciphex needs to be stored between 59 degrees Fahrenheit and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep out of reach of children and protect from moisture.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention as the symptoms of Aciphex are unknown.
More Information
Even if you feel better, continue to take the doses of Aciphex as instructed. Unless instructed by your doctor, you may consume any food, drink and participate in activity.
