Drug Uses
Aldara Cream is indicated to treat external genital and perianal warts. Aldara is patient applied and does not just eliminate warts, it fights the virus to prevent further infection.
How Taken
Aldara Cream should not be taken orally or applied near your eyes, nostrils or lips. It should only be applied as directed by your healthcare provider. If overused, it increases the risk of side effects and skin reactions. Usually it is a simple process where the cream is rubbed on the warts during sleeping hours then washed off after waking. Those who suffer from external genital and perianal warts should apply Aldara cream once a day for 6 to 10 hours, for 3 days a week. This treatment should be maintained until the warts are eradicated or for up to 16 weeks.
If you suffer from actinic keratoses, Aldara Cream is to be applied once a day for approximately 8 hours, 2 days a week for a period of 16 weeks or until all actinic keratoses is gone.
Warnings/Precautions
Inform you doctor if your skin becomes irritated or you suffer flu-like symptoms. If you partake in sexual activity such as oral, anal and genital sex, ensure that you have no medication in your skin as it contains oils that can weaken contraception such as latex condoms, diaphragms or cervical caps. Wash Aldara cream off before participating in sexual activity.
Unless instructed by your doctor, avoid other skin products on the area in which you use Aldara Cream. Do not share this medication with others. If you are pregnant, inform your doctor.
Missed Dose
As soon as you remember, apply the missed dose. If its time for your next application, skip the missed one and resume the regular schedule.
Possible Side Effects
The most common side effects is a skin reaction which is indicated by redness, swelling, peeling, hard or thickened skin, blister, sore, ulcer, crusting, itching, burning, scabbing, changes in skin color.
Storage
Dispose of outdated medication. Store Aldara Cream under 25 degrees Celsius in an air tight container and keep away from children and avoid freezing.
Overdose
Systemic reactions may occur if Aldara Cream is consistently topically applied. Seek medical attention.
