Drug Uses
Antivert is an antihistamine that is used to treat vomiting, nausea and dizziness related with motion sickness and may also be useful in treating vertigo as well as other purposes. It is effective as it obstructs the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body.
How Taken
Antivert comes in several formulas including a regular tablet, chewable tablet and a capsule. If Antivert is being taken for motion sickness, it should be consumed one hour before travel and it may be taken every 24 hours as needed. If it is being used to treat dizziness that is derived from an ear condition, it should be taken as instructed by your doctor. Follow the direction on the prescription label carefully and ask your health care provider if you do not understand.
Warnings/Precautions
As this medication may cause drowsiness, be cautious when operating machinery or doing any activity that requires you to be alert. Antivert may also increase the effects of depressants such as alcohol. Talk to your doctor if you are breast feeding as it unknown whether it passes through breast milk.
Missed Dose
It is not a major problem if you miss a dose as Antivert is only taken as needed. However if you are taking it on habitually, take the dose as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one completely and resume normal schedule.
Possible Side Effects
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include difficulty breathing, hives, and closing of your throat, swollen lips, tongue or face. Seek emergency medical help. Other mild side effects may occur such as drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, nervousness, constipation or insomnia. Contact your doctor if symptoms persist or seem particularly troublesome.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature in an air tight container.
Overdose
Signs of an overdose include hallucination, unusual excitability, drowsiness, shallow breathing and seizures. Seek emergency help if an overdose is suspected.

Antivert enhances the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness. This includes alcohol, antihistamines, antidepressants, sedatives, anxiety medication, muscle relaxants and pain relievers.
