Uses of Antivert

Antivert is an antihistamine that you can take to treat dizziness, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting. It may also treat vertigo as well as other related symptoms. It prevents the effects of your body’s naturally occurring chemical histamine.

Antivert comes in capsule, chewable tablet and regular tablet. Take it an hour before travel if you want to use it to relieve motion sickness. You can thereafter use it every 24 hours when needed. On the other hand, take it as prescribed by your doctor if you are using it to treat dizziness caused by an ear condition.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Be cautious when performing any activity that may be potentially dangerous or may require you to be alert. Antivert can cause drowsiness. It also aggravates the effects of depressants such as alcohol. If you are breastfeeding, inform your doctor as it is not known whether Antivert passes through breast milk.

If you take Antivert, you may be subject to symptoms such as blurred vision, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, insomnia and nervousness. Call your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. However, immediately seek emergency medical attention if you are experiencing an allergic reaction, characterized by breathing difficulty, hives, swelling lips, tongue or face and tightening of throat.

Missed Dose

As a drug that is taken as needed, Antivert should not pose a problem if it is forgotten. If you are taking the drug regularly, as advised by your doctor, you have to set a regular schedule for your doses.

Storage

Store Antivert at a controlled room temperature, in a tight container.

Overdose

Immediately seek emergency medical attention if you suspect an overdose. Symptoms of Antivert overdose include drowsiness, hallucinations, shallow breathing and unusual excitability.

More Information

Antivert causes drowsiness, especially when combined with alcohol, antidepressants, anxiety medication, sedatives, muscle relaxants, pain relievers and other antihistamines.
