Uses of Atarax

Atarax is a drug formulated to relieve anxiety and tension as symptoms of psychoneurosis or any other disease in which anxiety is part of the roster of symptoms.

Adults are usually recommended to take dosages of 50 to 100 mg a day while children over six years old can take the same total daily dosage in separate doses. Children under six years old can only have 50 mg daily in separate doses.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed as it is yet unknown if Atarax is passed on to breast milk.

Atarax is a fairly tolerable drug. So, the possible side effects are pretty mild. Dry mouth and drowsiness may be possible side effects.

Missed Dose

Do not double dose on Atarax. This means that you should take a missed dose as soon as you remember but forget about it if the next scheduled dose is nearly up.

Storage

Store Atarax in a cool, dry place. Make sure you place it away from light and moisture where children cannot reach for it. Discard of any expired medication immediately.

Overdose

Call poison control or any other medical emergency services if you suspect an overdose even if you have not experienced symptoms yet. A possible sign of Atarax overdose is hypersedation.

More Information

Atarax may increase the feelings of drowsiness. So, it is best to avoid any activity that will require your full alertness or may be possibly dangerous. These activities include driving and operating machinery. If handling machinery, driving or any other potentially dangerous activity cannot be helped, at least practice caution. If the symptom of drowsiness is pretty strong then it is better to stay put for awhile, preferably up to the point when the symptom is all gone.
