Drug Uses
Buspar is effective in treating generalized anxiety disorder as it balances the chemicals in your brain.
How Taken
Buspar is to be taken exactly as prescribed with food or milk. Do not adjust your doses. After 7 – 10 days, you will begin to see improvement however it may take another month before the full benefits of Buspar is apparent.
Warnings/Precautions
Discuss with your doctor about your medical history especially if you have kidney or liver disease and any drug allergies. It is not known if Buspar will harm an unborn child or if it passes through breast milk so tell your doctor before you take this drug. Use caution when performing hazardous activities or where you are required to be fully alert or when you drink alcohol. Buspar may intensify dizziness and drowsiness.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and just take the following one. Do not double dose.
Possible Side Effects
Less serious side effects of Buspar include altered sense of taste and smell, weight gain, muscle aches, nausea, headaches, ringing in the ears, vivid dreams, sleeplessness, dry skin, dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, weakness, dry skin and blurred vision. If these symptoms worsen, contact your doctor. Immediately notify your doctor if you experience symptoms such as face or neck muscle twitching, involuntary movements or tremors, chest pain, breathing difficulty, confusion, chest pain, depression or un-coordination.
Storage
This medication is to be kept in an air-tight container, out of reach from children and stored at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Expired medication must be discarded.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs, seek emergency help. Symptoms include vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, decreased pupil size, vomiting and nausea.
More Information
Inform you doctor of all your prescription and over the counter drugs especially those indicated for anxiety, depression, narcotic pain medication, haloperidol, azole or macrolide antibiotics. Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
