Drug Uses
Clarinex is prescribed to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, otherwise known as hay fever. It is an antihistamine which has a long-acting tricyclic histamine antagonist with selective H1-receptor histamine antagonist activity.
How Taken
Clarinex is an oral tablet that is taken with or without food usually once a day. Follow the instructions on your prescription label and take exactly as directed.
Warnings/Precautions
You may need special monitoring or dose adjustments if you have kidney or liver disease or have had an allergic reaction to antihistamine. Listed in the FDA pregnancy category C, it is unknown if Clarinex will be harmful to an unborn baby. Clarinex passes through breast milk and may affect the nursing baby, so discuss with your doctor if you are breast feeding, are pregnant or intend to become pregnant while taking Clarinex.
Missed Dose
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. Do not double dose. If it is time for your next dose, skip the last one and take the next regular one.
Possible Side Effects
If any side effects occur, contact your doctor as he or she will be able to determine whether you should resume taking Clarinex or not. Extreme but rare side effects include swelling, allergic reaction, rapid heartbeat, rash, breathing difficulty, itching and hives. More common side effects comprise of dry mouth, sleepiness, sore throat, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, dizziness, nausea and muscle pain.
Storage
Store Clarinex in an air tight container at room temperature, away from heat and children.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs, regular helpful measures should be adopted as necessary.
