Drug Uses

Colchicine is prescribed to treat attacks of gout and acute gouty arthritis. Colchicine is not an analgesic however it suppresses inflammation which helps reduce the overall pain.

How Taken

Colchicine may be taken once every hour, with a 0.6mg – 1.2mg dose, until the pain is relieved. It should be taken with a full glass of water and some food. To prevent further attacks of gout, Colchicine may be taken daily or every 3-4 days on 0.6mg doses. If an acute attack occurs, a 4-8mg is recommended to control it.
