Drug Uses
Denavir is an external medication used to treat recurrent cold sores (herpes labialis) on lips and face of adults. It is a topical antiviral medication that may be used for other purposes.
How Taken
Denavir should be applied every two hours while awake for four days using a clean finger or cotton swab. To prevent irritation and spread, wash your hands immediately with soap and water to prevent contact with eyes and other vulnerable areas.
Warnings/Precautions
Denavir is an external medication used on your lips and face and must not be applied on mucous membranes inside the nose, mouth, genital or rectal areas. It is a topical cream and is unlikely to harm an unborn baby nevertheless you must consult with your doctor before you take it. Although in the FDA pregnancy category B, it is unknown whether Denavir passes through breast milk.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take the next one as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the upcoming dose.
Possible Side Effects
There have been no reported serious side effects however less serious side effects may occur and this may include tingling, rash, irritation, headache and change in taste.
Storage
Denavir must be stored at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
Overdose
It is unlikely to be a threatening experience if you overdose on Denavir. If ingested, seek emergency attention.
More Information
Unless directed by your doctor, do not use other topical medication to treat the same area at the same time as Denavir. If using other prescription medication, consult with your doctor regarding it’s interaction with Denavir.
