Drug Uses
Detrol LA is prescribed for the treating an overactive bladder causing symptoms of urgency, frequency and urge urinary incontinence.
How Taken
Detrol LA comes in the form of either an extended release capsule or a tablet. The tablet form is taken twice daily whilst the long acting capsule is taken once a day with liquids. Do not crush, split or chew the medication and take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor and pharmacist.
Warnings/Precautions
Detrol LA must not be taken if you have a blockage in the intestines or urinary tract. If you suffer from liver disease, kidney disease or glaucoma, inform your doctor as you may need to adjust your doses or be specially monitored. Detrol LA is not known to harm an unborn baby or if it passes through breast milk and is listed under the FDA pregnancy category C. Consult your doctor before you take Detrol LA as there may be some risks to your infant or unborn child.
Missed Dose
If you accidentally miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However if it is near your next scheduled dose, skip the previous one and just return to your regular schedule. Do not double dose.
Possible Side Effects
Seek emergency attention if you experience an allergic reaction with symptoms being hives, difficulty breathing, and closing of your throat, swollen lips, tongue or face. Less serious side effects include dry mouth, dry eyes, drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, stomach cramp, large pupils, blurred vision and difficult urinating.
Storage
Store Detrol LA at a controlled room temperature.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs, seek medical attention. Symptoms may include fast heartbeat, flushing, fever, nausea, vomiting, seizures, delirium, irritability, restlessness, tremor and coma.

Detrol LA may cause blurred vision, dizziness and drowsiness therefore it is vital to take caution when performing hazardous activities such as operating machinery and driving. Furthermore, Detrol LA decreases sweating which in turn increases the risk of heat stroke so ensure you avoid becoming overheated in hot weather.
