Drug Uses
Elidel is prescribed for people 2 years and older who suffer from eczema, aka atopic dermatitis. It is an external medicine used for skin only and can be taken for short or intermittent periods of treatment.
How Taken
Elidel may be used all over your body, including your head and neck. Shake the bottle well, and then apply a thin layer of Elidel cream to the affected skin twice a day for as long as symptoms persist. However after six weeks, the patient should be re-evaluated.
Warnings/Precautions
If you suffer from the congenital skin disorder Netherton’s syndrome, consult your doctor before taking Elidel. Also consult with your doctor if you have problems with your immune system, if you suffer from any skin infections and to discuss the type of skin products you are using. It is not known whether Elidel will affect an unborn baby or whether it will pass through breast milk. Nevertheless, talking to your doctor beforehand is vital to conclude whether you are able to take Elidel or if you need to adjust your doses.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However if it is time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose completely and take the following one.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects may include a feeling of warmth, headache, cold, influenza, fever, viral infection, fever and cough. Severe side effects include warts, swollen glands and herpes skin infections such as chicken pox, cold sores and shingles.
Storage
Do not freeze Elidel and store at a temperature of 25 degrees.
Overdose
An overdose of Elidel has not been reported however if orally ingested, seek medical treatment.
More Information
It is recommended that you do not combine other skin products in areas treated by Elidel unless instructed by your doctor. Avoid UVA light, UVB light, sunlight, sun lamps and tanning beds.
