Uses of Flonase

Flonase is designed to relieve congestion, snefklc;ezing and other allergy or cold related symptoms involving the nose. It is administered by pressing a spray pump directed to the nasal mucosa.

The best way to look at Flonase dosage is to follow your doctor’s prescription. Typically though, 2 sprays once daily of 50 mcg Flonase Nasal Spray to each nostril is advised. Use must be daily and regularly for as long as your doctor recommends it. This is the starting dosage, which means a total daily dose of 200 mcg. The dose may also be divided into 100 mcg twice daily, with the two administrations twelve hours apart. This can be reduced to 100 mcg once daily when only on maintenance therapy.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Before administering Flonase, you should inform your doctor of any infection: viral, bacterial or fungal. Taking Flonase may make it harder for you to fight off infections. So, it is best not to administer the drug if you are still sick with any type of infection. You should talk to your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The nasal spray’s effects on the unborn child or the quality of your milk are not known. The product is also not approved for use of children younger than 4. Always take note of the product’s expiration date.

There are no serious side effects associated with Flonase nose spray. However, you may experience symptoms of an allergic reaction. Some of these symptoms can be serious. These are difficulty in breathing, a tight feeling in the throat, swelling and hives. There may be other less serious symptoms as well. Flonase may also cause a stinging sensation and sneezing right after application. Other side effects include yeast infection (nose or throat), perforated septum, runny nose and increased pressure in the eyes.

Missed Dose

In case of missed doses, take one as soon as you remember. Skip if it is almost time for your next dosage to avoid a double dose.

Storage

The spray must be stored in temperatures between 4° and 30°C (39° and 86°F). Keep it away from children.

Overdose

Overdose is improbable but immediately seek emergency care if you suspect it.

More Information

Make sure that your environment is allergen-free so that you do not have to rely on Flonase nasal spray all the time. The spray cannot even be used when you have an infection.
