Uses of Imitrex
Imitrex is a drug formulated to treat migraine headaches. It does this by specifically targeting the blood vessels and nerves that create tension.

During a migraine attack, you can take one dose of Imitrex to ease the tension. You may even take two doses during a severe attack. However, you should not take more than 200 mg of Imitrex within a 24 hour period unless your doctor has given you instructions to do so during severe migraine attacks.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects
Possible side effects include nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and fatigue.

Warnings/Precautions
- During your consultation with your doctor, you should reveal your full medical history and any medication you are currently taking. Mention to your doctor if you have previously experienced an allergic reaction to Imitrex. Also inform your doctor if you have or have experienced any of the following: diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, peripheral vascular disease, Raynaud syndrome, stroke and uncontrolled blood pressure. Also tell your doctor if you are a smoker or a non-smoker. Your interactions with the drug may vary depending on your medical history and lifestyle.

- Do not forget to mention if you are taking other headache medication or ergotamine or if you have taken MAO inhibitors recently. Your doctor knows those other drugs will interact with Imitrex.

If you overdose on Imitrex, you may experience dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue and nausea.

Missed Dose
There are no instructions on missed doses as you only take Imitrex when you have a migraine headache.

Storage
Keep Imitrex in an air tight container. Make sure that the container is at room temperature and is kept away from heat and moisture. Keep drugs away from children.

Overdose
Immediately seek emergency medical attention if you think you have overdosed on the medication.

More Information
If you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant or breastfeeding, inform your doctor and ask him if you can still take Imitrex.
