Drug Uses
For the treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail due to dermatophytes, Lamisil Tablets have been prescribed to treat the fungus.
How Taken
Lamisil comes in the form of oral tablets. If you suffer from fingernail fungus, Lamisil tablets are normally taken once a day for 6 weeks whilst those who suffer from toenail fungus usually take the tablets once a day for 12 weeks.
Warnings/Precautions
Inform your doctor about all medication and medical conditions you may have particularly if you suffer from allergies, liver disease, kidney disease, blood problems or immune system problems. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, want to become pregnant or are breast feeding. When your doctor has a full report of your personal health, he will be able to determine if taking Lamisil is appropriate.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Lamisil, take it as soon as possible. However if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and resume as norm.
Possible Side Effects
The possibility of side effects is unlikely however as with any medication, there may be risks. Less severe side effects may include diarrhea, flatulence, headache, taste disturbances, nausea, upset stomach and heartbeat. More serious side effects include an allergic reaction, blood problems, rash, changes in vision, liver damage, loss of appetite, yellow eyes or skin, itching, dark urine, clay colored stools, fatigue, abdominal pain, vomiting.
Storage
Lamisil tablets should be stored under 25 degrees Celsius in an air tight container away from heat, moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
An overdose may be indicated by rash, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, headache and frequent urination. Seek appropriate medical help.
More Information
Alcohol should not be taken whilst taking Lamisil as the combination of both substances may affect the liver.
