Uses of Lamisil Oral

Lamisil Oral is a drug formulated to treat onychomycosis (ringworm) of the fingernail or toenail, caused by dermatophytes (type of fungus). The medication is specifically prescribed to treat the fungus.

Lamisil Oral comes in the form of tablets. Usually, you will be asked to take it once daily for a duration of 6 weeks for the treatment of fingernail fungus. If the medication is to be used to treat toenail fungus, you should double the duration to 12 weeks.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Tell your doctor your full medical history, which includes medications and conditions, especially if you have allergies, blood problems, immune system problems, kidney disease and liver disease. Also inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding, pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Your doctor need all the above information to decide whether you should take Lamisil Oral and at what dosage.

It is rare for patients to experience side effects when using Lamisil Oral. However, side effects are still within the realm of possibility and include symptoms such as diarrhea, flatulence, headache, nausea, palpitations, taste disturbances and upset stomach. Other more severe side effects include abdominal pain, allergic reactions, blood problems, clay colored stools, dark urine, fatigue, itching, jaundice, liver damage, loss of appetite, vision changes and vomiting.

Missed Dose

Take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. Skip it, however, if it the next scheduled dose is nearly due.

Storage

Store Lamisil tablets in temperatures under 25 degrees Celsius. Put them in an air tight container that does not expose them to heat, light and moisture. Make sure that children cannot find or reach their hiding place.

Overdose

In case of a suspected overdose, seek emergency medical care or the nearest poison control center. Symptoms of overdose may include abdominal pain, dizziness, frequent urination, headache, rash and vomiting.

Do not take Lamisil tablets with alcohol as both can affect the liver negatively and can be deadly when combined.
