Drug Uses

Lipitor is a statin that is prescribed for patients who suffer from cholesterol problems, heart disease or type 2 diabetes. It reduces fatty substances in your blood and the amount of cholesterol in your body by blocking an enzyme in the liver that makes cholesterol. In turn, cholesterol levels are then lowered which enables blood to flow more freely. The increase of blood flow ensures that enough oxygen is being supplied to your heart and brain which prevents angina, strokes, heart attacks and heart disease. This medication must be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise.

How Taken

Lipitor must be taken exactly as prescribed. Typically it is recommended that it is taken once a day with or without food, around the same time daily. Lipitor comes in the form of a tablet and it is recommended that you partake in a low fat, low cholesterol diet throughout treatment.
