Uses of Ortho TriCyclen LO

Ortho Tri-Cyclen is an oral contraceptive that contains a combination of estrogen and progestin. It can also be used to regulate periods or treat symptoms of menopause.

Take the pill every day at approximately the same time. Missing a pill or starting a pack late can increase the chances of pregnant. You may feel queasy or experience spotting during your first 1 to 3 packs. Keep on taking the pill. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Missing a pill can also cause spotting. Use other forms of contraceptive if you have a bout of vomiting or diarrhea as the pill may have been removed from your system.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Combining a smoking habit with taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen may increase the risk of heart disease and other related conditions. Use backup contraception if you are also using antibiotics as the latter can decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Before going through a dental or medical procedure and before taking new medication, inform your dentist or doctor. The pill may cause melasma that can grow darker with sun exposure. Remember that pills do not prevent STDs. Do not use the pill when pregnant. Consult your doctor if you suspect you are pregnant or are planning to breastfeed.

You may experience side effects such as bleeding between menstrual periods, breast tenderness, nausea, vomiting and weight change. If symptoms worsen or persist, call your doctor Laos call your doctor at once if you experience abnormal vaginal bleeding, dizziness, difficulty wearing contact lenses, headache and fainting. Side effects that require immediate medical care include sudden shortness of breath, severe headache, jaundice, vision changes, numb arm or leg, severe abdominal pain and crushing chest pain.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember or take doses on your next schedule. You may use backup contraception for 7 days after your missed dose. If you miss two consecutive tablets, take them as soon as you remember or take three tablets on your next schedule. Use another form of birth control for 7 days after your last missed dose. If, however, you miss three consecutive pills, throw the pack and start a new one on the 7th day after your last pill intake. Again, there is a need for another form of birth control for at least 7 days. You should get your period during your 7 day break from the pills. If not, you may need to take a pregnancy test before starting the new pack.

Drug Storage

Store the pill away from children, and also from heat and moisture.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose include nausea and withdrawal bleeding in females.

Other Information

Your doctor will prescribe your pill according to your medical history. So, do not recommend the same drug and dosage to a friend.
