Uses of Patanol

Patanol is an eye drop that can relieve itchy eyes caused by allergies. So, the prescription medication can also take away the redness caused by rubbing.

You only need to apply one drop to each eye, twice a day. The interval between the two applications must be within 6 to 8 hours.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

As with other allergy medications, Patanol may inhibit the healing of bacterial, viral or fungal infections. You may use Patanol even in the event of an existing infection if the infection is also being actively treated. You should also consult a doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before you use Patanol. Patanol belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that its effects on the unborn child have not yet been determined. It has also not yet been studied whether the medication becomes part of breast milk.

It is unlikely that you will experience serious side effects from the use of Patanol. However, it is possible that you will experience some allergic reaction. If you are having trouble breathing and if your throat seems tight or if your lips, tongue or face has swollen, you should immediately seek medical attention. If side effects are mild, you may continue using Patanol but inform your doctor of any troubling side effects.

Missed Dose

Take the dose you have missed when you remember it. Make sure that you don’t follow it up until at least six hours afterwards.

Storage

Store Patanol eye drops at 39°F to 86°F (4°C to 30°C).

Overdose

It is unlikely for you to overdose on Patanol. However, seek medical help if you do suspect an overdose or if you have ingested the product instead of merely applying it into your eyes.

More Information

Patanol should not be used on children younger than 3 years old. Do not use Patanol while still wearing contact lenses because it contains a preservative. You may use contact lenses after 15 minutes of applying Patanol.
