Uses of Paxil - CR
Paxil is a drug that belongs to a group of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These drugs help in increasing the levels of serotonin, which are helpful in adjusting the mood of the patient. Serotonin is a chemical that is released from the sender nerve cell to the receiver nerve cell. In the receiver, serotonin is either absorbed or returned to sender.
Paxil comes in the form of a tablet. It must be taken orally, usually once a day or as prescribed by your doctor. Follow your doctor’s instructions and do not suddenly discontinue the medication. First inform your doctor if you want to stop. Your medication will be gradually decreased as a result. It will take weeks of regular use for the full effects to be experienced.
Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects
During your consultation, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney disease, seizures ore epilepsy and a tendency towards suicidal ideation or a manic disorder. If you do have any of the conditions mentioned, you may asked not to take Paxil or your dosage may be adjusted and monitored. You should also inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding. The effects of Paxil to the unborn child have not yet been discovered. The drug also passes to breast milk and may harm your nursing baby.
Immediately stop taking Paxil if you experience an allergic reaction, irregular heartbeat, low or high blood pressure, bleeding or bruising, and flu-like symptoms. Continue taking the medication if the symptoms are less serious. These side effects may include headache, anxiety, cottony mouth sexual problems, insomnia, diarrhea and changes in appetite. However, inform your doctor about these symptoms so that the can advise you on what to do next.
Missed Dose
Take your missed dose as soon as you remember but only when the next scheduled dose is still hours away. If not then just skip the missed dose and wait for the next one.
Storage
Store Paxil at room temperatures between 20-25°C (68-77°F).
Overdose
Paxil overdose can be determined by the following symptoms: agitation and hyperactivity, drowsiness, dilated pupils and tremor/seizures. Immediately seek medical attention even if you have not yet experienced the symptoms but suspect that you may gone over the prescribed dose.

Paxil can cause drowsiness and dizziness. So, you must keep away from activities that may be potentially dangerous. You should not take Paxil with alcohol, which increases the feelings of drowsiness and dizziness.
