Uses of Ranitidine HCL

Ranitidine HCL is a drug formulated to treat active duodenal ulcer. It may also be used as maintenance therapy for duodenal ulcer, if it is inactive.

Ranitidine HCL is in tablet form so it must be taken orally with a full glass of water. You can take 150 mg tablets twice a day or one 300 mg tablet a day, depending on which arrangement is more convenient. It is, however, recommended that you take the medication before bedtime.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant or breastfeeding. You should especially consult your doctor if breastfeeding and planning to take Ranitidine HCL. The medication can be secreted into human milk and can be passed on to your nursing baby. In the case of planning to stop taking Ranitidine, consult your doctor first.

During the course of your treatment with Ranitidine HCL, you may experience side effects such as abdominal discomfort or pain, diarrhea, headache and nausea or vomiting. Talk to your doctor about troublesome symptoms and ask for advice on whether or not to stop or change the dosage of the drug.

Missed Dose

Take your missed dose of Ranitidine HCL as soon as you remember to. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the forgotten dose. You should not double dose on Ranitidine HCL.

Drug Storage

Store Ranitidine HCL at controlled room temperature and in a dry place. Temperatures of 15°-30°C (59°-86°F) are specifically required. Keep the drug away from light and the reach of children.

Overdose

If you overdose on Ranitidine HCL, seek medical help immediately. Unabsorbed material may have to be removed from your gastrointestinal tract.

Other Information

You will not have any activity, food and beverage restrictions during your Ranitidine HCL treatment, unless your doctor specifically imposes some.
