Uses of Skelaxin

Skelaxin acts as a muscle relaxant that treats pain and stiffness brought by muscle injuries, such as muscle spasms, sprains and strains.

Skelaxin comes in the form of an oral tablet. Adults and children over 12 years old can take two tablets (800) mg three or four times daily. The drug can be taken immediately after meals or together with food to prevent possible stomach upset. Do not alter your dose. Ask your doctor if you can take it more frequently or for a longer duration of time, instead.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Skelaxin should not be taken if you have acute intermittent porphyria. Also alert your doctor if you have liver disease before taking the drug. He may decide to give you a lower dose or to monitor your therapy. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding. The effects of Skelaxin to the unborn child and the nursing baby have not yet been determined. The drug is only approved for use of children and adults ages 12 and older.

If you take Skelaxin, the most likely side effects you will experience are dizziness, drowsiness, gastrointestinal upset, headache, irritability or nervousness, nausea and vomiting. You may also experience light rashes with or without itching, haemolytic anemia, jaundice and leukopenia.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take that dose if you remember within an hour. If not then skip that dose of Skelaxin and wait for your next scheduled dose. This is to prevent doubling on your dose.

Storage

Store Skelaxin at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius). Keep it away from moisture and sunlight. So, also make sure to not use the bathroom as storage area.

Overdose

Immediately seek emergency medical help or call your local poison control center if you suspect an overdose. Symptoms of Skelaxin overdose include severe drowsiness or even unconsciousness.
