Uses of Soma
Soma, which is short for Carsoma, is also known as Carisoprodol. This muscle relaxant works by blocking the transmission of pain between the nerves and the brain. It should be used together with physical therapy and proper rest. It can, however, be only used for up to three weeks maximum as the benefits of prolonged use have not yet been determined. It is used to relieve discomfort, pain and stiffness caused by muscle injuries.
Soma comes in the form of an oral tablet that must be taken with a full glass of water. Take it as prescribed by your doctor. The oral dose for adults and teens is 350 mg four times daily. Children 5 to 12 years can take 6.25 mg per kilo of their body weight. The dose should also be taken four times a day. Younger children should take doses as prescribed by their doctor.
Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects
Take only the dosage specifically prescribed to you as Soma can be addictive. There may be withdrawal symptoms after the patient discontinues the drug therapy. Those who have porphyria or are allergic to carisoprodol or meprobamate should not take Soma. Tell your doctor about all the other medications you are taking, especially those used for anxiety, allergy, depression and seizures and other pain relievers and muscle relaxants. These drugs may negatively interact with Carsoma.
You may experience some side effects while taking Soma. These side effects include blurred vision, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, hiccups, nausea, stomach pain, tremor, vomiting and sleeping problems. Some may experience an allergic reaction, characterized by difficulty breathing, hives and swelling. Call a doctor at once if you or someone you know experiences any of the following: agitation, fainting, intense weakness, palpitations, paralysis or seizure.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose and remember within an hour of your schedule, you can still take that missed dose. If it is pass the hour mark then skip the dose. Do not double dose.
Storage
Store Soma away from moisture and heat. Keep it at room temperature.
Overdose
Symptoms of Soma overdose include confusion, dizziness, hallucinations, muscle stiffness, palpitations, seizure, shallow breathing and vision impairment. Call for emergency medical attention if any of the above arises.
