Uses Tetracycline

Tetracycline is a drug used to treat infections that have been caused by certain bacteria. It may also be used to prevent infections that have been suspected to have been caused by bacteria of the same kind.

Most likely, you will be prescribed a dose of 1 to 2 grams daily. This dosage may be increased at the discretion of your doctor if you are suffering from severe infection. Therapy usually lasts up to 24 to 48 hours after fever and other symptoms are gone.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

During your consultation with your doctor, mention any hypersensitivity to or allergies from tetracyclines. You should not use the drug without any strong indication of existing bacteria that causes the infection. If you do, there are no benefits to be had and there may even be a possibility of the bacteria being able to build a resistance against the drug.

You may experience anorexia, bulky loose stools or diarrhea, epigastric distress, nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, glossitis, black hairy tongue, enterocolitis, ore throat, dysphagia, hoarseness and inflammatory lesions with candida overgrowth in the anogenital region.

Missed Dose

Make sure you follow your doctor’s instructions. Skip a missed dose if it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose.

Storage

Store Tetracyclin in a tight container that is resistant to light. Make sure you put the container in room temperature, away from moisture and out of the reach of children.

Overdose

Immediately seek medical care.

Other information

If you are to be treated with Tetracyclin for a long period of time, your organ system functions should be regularly checked. Your hepatic, renal and hematopoietic systems should be evaluated throughout the therapy to make sure that the large doses of Tetracyclin are not taking their toll on your organs.
