Uses of Transderm Scop

Transderm Scop is an anticholinergic drug formulated to relieve dizziness, nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness. Anticholinergic can decrease the secretion of fluids, dilate the pupils and slow the stomach and intestine.

Transderm Scop comes in the form of a patch. It should be applied on the skin behind the ear. One Trasnderm Scop patch should be attached to a dry, clean and hairless area on that spot. The spot should relieve motion sickness symptoms for 3 days. Throw the patch at the end of the 3 day duration. It should be wrapped in tissue or paper to avoid anyone else from getting exposed to its active ingredients. Wash the spot behind your ear thoroughly after removing the patch.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

During your consultation with your doctor, reveal any medical condition especially bladder problems, difficulty urinating enlarged prostate, glaucoma, kidney disease and liver disease. Also inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding. The drug’s effects on the unborn child and on breast milk are not yet determined. Children should not use the patch as they are more prone to side effects cause by scopolamine.

If you are allergic to any component of Transderm Scop, you may experience an allergic reaction. If this happens, immediately seek emergency medical help. Other side effects include blurred vision, decreased appetite, dizziness, dry mouth, nose or throat, excitation, insomnia, nausea, nervousness and vomiting. You may also experience difficulty urinating and palpitations. If you have been undergoing treatment for more than 3 days, you may experience withdrawal symptoms after: dizziness, headache, nausea, poor coordination and vomiting. Talk to your doctor if your symptoms persist or worsen.

Missed Dose

Remove your patch as soon as you remember that the 3 days are up. Put a fresh patch behind the other ear.

Storage

Store Transderm Scop at a controlled room temperature between 20°C - 25°C (68°F - 77°F).

Overdose

You may have overdosed on Transderm Scop if you experience agitation, drowsiness, convulsions, excitability, dizziness and seizures. Those who overdose may even hallucinate or ultimately die. So, it is important to seek emergency medical help if you suspect you or someone else has overdosed.

More Information

The medicine can cause drowsiness, especially when mixed with alcohol. Avoid or proceed with caution on activities that can be dangerous.
