Uses of Zithromax

Zithromax is a drug formulated to cure many types of bacterial infections. These infections may range from bronchitis, pneumonia and tonsillitis to ear infections, skin infections and sexually transmitted diseases.

The drug comes in tablet, capsule or liquid. So, it should be taken orally. Take the capsule or tablet with a full glass of water. Zithromax in any of its forms can be taken with or without food. However, you can take it with food if your stomach gets upset after taking it. Take the liquid an hour before or two hours after a meal. Make sure that you shake the liquid well first before ingesting. Most likely, your doctor will prescribe the drug to be taken once daily for 2 to 5 days. Go through the duration recommended by your doctor even if you feel better beforehand.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

Inform your doctor if you have a liver disease. You may be advised not to take Zithromax. Your doctor may also decide to prescribe the drug but will monitor your reactions to it. Also inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant or breastfeeding, before taking Zithromax. While Zithromax may not harm your unborn baby, it may pass on to your breast milk.

If you experience serious side effects such as an allergic reaction, jaundice, severe fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea and unusual bleeding or bruising then immediately stop taking Zithromax and seek medical help. If you are experiencing less serious side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, fatigue, rash, vaginal yeast infection or increased sensitivity to sunlight. There may be other side effects. Whatever symptoms you are experiencing, immediately talk to your doctor if they are uncommon or disturbing.

Missed Dose

Do not double dose unless specifically prescribed by your doctor. Only take a missed dose if you remember it on the day you have to take it, within several hours before the next scheduled dose.

Storage

Zithromax tablets should be kept at temperatures between 15° to 30° C (59° to 86°F). The liquid suspension, on the other hand, should be stored at temperatures between 5° to 30°C (41° to 86°F). Leftover suspension should be discarded. The bottle should be tightly closed when still being used.

Overdose

Signs of Zithromax overdose are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Seek medical help immediately.
