Uses of Zyrtec

Zyrtec is an antihistamine. So, it is formulated to prevent allergy symptoms such as itchy and watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing. It is used to treat allergies and allergic inflammatory conditions as well as hives or urticaria.

The drug is to be taken orally as it is in the form of a tablet. It is generally taken once a day, preferably at night before sleeping side effects such as dizziness and drowsiness will not cause harm. It may be taken regularly or only when allergy symptoms arise.

Safety Guidelines & Possible Side Effects

If you have a kidney or liver disease, your doctor may advise lower dosage of Zyrtec. So it is best to discuss the condition during your consultation. Though Zyrtec will unlikely harm your unborn baby, it is still best to inform your doctor about your pregnancy before taking the drug. You may not take the medication if you are breast-feeding as it passes through breast milk.

You may experience an allergic reaction to Zyrtec. Signs that you are experiencing such a reaction are breathing difficulty, throat tightening, and swelling of lips, tongue or face. Other side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue and headache. Immediately inform your doctor about troublesome side effects.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, just wait for your next schedule to take the next tablet. Do not take double doses.

Drug Storage

Store Zyrtec at 20-25°C (68-77°F); 15-30°C (59-86°F) may also be acceptable.

Overdose

The specific signs of Zyrtec overdose are not known but if you suspect it immediately seek medical help. Possible signs of overdose include confusion, extreme sleepiness and weakness.

Other Information

Avoid driving or engaging in potentially dangerous activities after taking Zyrtec. The drug can cause drowsiness, which may impair your judgment and cause accidents.
