Zyloprim is a drug that is formulated to relieve the symptoms of gout by lowering the levels of uric acid in the body. Gout, after all, is caused by an increase in uric acid levels caused by either cancer treatment or kidney stones.
Zyloprim comes in the form of tablet. So, it is to be taken orally preferably after eating. It is to be taken once a day. While being treated with Zyloprim, you should drink at least eight glasses of water. Limit your intake of Vitamin C supplements and fruit juices. Too much Vitamin C can increase the chances of getting kidney stones.
During your consultation, inform your doctor about your medical history and condition. He has to know especially if you have kidney or liver disease, in which case you may have to be given a lower dose or to be monitored during your treatment with Zyloprim. You must also tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The effects of Zyloprim on the unborn and nursing child are not yet determined.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember to take it but skip it if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not double dose.
In case of serious side effects from Zyloprim, immediately go for medical help and stop taking the drug. These side effects include a typical allergic reaction, nausea, vomiting, flu-like symptoms, eye irritation, a rash and blood in your urine or pain when you urinate. Less serious side effects such as headache, upset stomach, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness and an acute attack of gouty arthritis will require you to call your doctor and continue taking the drug unless your doctor approves a discontinuation. Mention any unusual or bothersome side effects.
Store Zyloprim at temperatures between 15-25°C (59-77°F). Keep the drug away from heat and moisture.
Although the symptoms of Zyloprim overdose have not yet been determined, any suspicions of overdose must be taken seriously. Immediately seek medical help.
Zyloprim can cause drowsiness. Keep away from activities that can be potentially dangerous. Do not drink alcohol with Zyloprim as it will aggrave the feeling of drowsiness.
