Uses as a Drug

Elidel is a prescription topical medicine recommended to people who are 2 years and older. This medicine is formulated to treat eczema, which is also known as atopic dermatitis. It is applied on affected skin for a short period of treatment. If the duration of the treatment is a little longer, the application is irregular.

Instructions

You can apply Elidel all over your body, even on your head and neck. Before using the medication, shake the bottle well first. Apply a thin layer of cream on the affected areas twice a day. Continue with the treatment as long as there are symptoms but get re-evaluated if after six weeks, the skin condition is still existent.

Safety Precautions

Before taking Elidel, you should consult with your doctor and inform him about any of your present medical conditions. Tell your doctor if you have a congenital skin disorder called Netherton’s Syndrom or if you suffer from any other skin infections. Mention all the skin products that you are currently using. This way, your doctor can tell you which to continue or which ones decrease the effectiveness of Elidel. Talk about problems with the immune system or if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding. The effects of Elidel on the unborn child or the breastfeeding baby are not yet known.

Missed Dose

Take the missed application as soon as you remember. If you remember the dose when it is almost time for the next one, skip that application and proceed to the next scheduled one.

Side Effects

Elidel can cause side effects such as cold, cough, fever, headache, influenza, viral infection and a warm feeling. More serious side effects include swollen glands, warts and herpes skin infections that include cold sores, chicken pox and shingles.

Drug Storage

Store Elidel at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. Do not freeze.

Overdose

There are no reports of Elidel overdose symptoms. If orally ingested, however, seek emergency medical care.
